Welcome to Retired Police Dogs SA

Retired Police Dogs SA is a registered not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of retired police dogs from the South Australia Police (SAPOL). Founded in 2024, we operate independently with the valued support of SAPOL to ensure these loyal and hardworking animals enjoy a safe, comfortable, and well-deserved retirement.

While many retired dogs remain with their handlers, some may be rehomed. Regardless of their living situation, we are here to provide financial support for medical expenses and ongoing care—needs that often arise due to the demanding nature of their service careers.

Although SAPOL continues to supply food for dogs retiring with their handlers, these animals are not eligible for standard pet insurance. Their exclusion is due to their previous working status and the high incidence of pre-existing conditions accumulated during service. As a result, medical costs can become a significant burden for their families.

At Retired Police Dogs SA, we are committed to easing that burden by offering financial assistance and support. Your generosity helps us ensure these courageous companions receive the care and dignity they deserve in retirement.

Please note: We are not involved in the rehoming of retired police dogs.
